MEET DAVID

A lifelong Minnesotan, David Hann was born and raised in Minneapolis and Bloomington. After serving as an E-4 in Vietnam with the Army, he returned home and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College, where he met his wife of 44 years, Anne. Together, they raised three sons and one daughter. They spent two years at the University of Chicago after college while David studied in the Divinity Program.
David spent his professional career working throughout the midwest in business, specifically forecasting and logistics. In the mid ‘90s, when his children were in elementary school, he ran for the Eden Prairie school board in hopes of improving their education and was elected to three terms. After receiving a crash course in Minnesota’s education system, he decided to run for, and was elected to, the state senate. A few years later, he was elected as the Senate minority leader and ultimately won back a majority for the Minnesota Senate in 2016 by flipping eight seats and holding four open seats.
Following his time in public service, David worked as the Executive Director for the Minnesota Association of Townships. With fifteen percent of the state’s population residing in townships, David came to understand the unique dynamics that many Minnesotans experience with their local and state governments.
From 2021-2024, David chaired the Republican Party of Minnesota. In addition to retiring the Party’s legacy debt, he built meaningful partnerships with local, state, and federal stakeholders. By inviting President Trump to St. Paul in May of 2024, he was able to host the largest Lincoln-Reagan dinner the Party has ever seen, grossing just shy of $1 million. His experience and steady and trusted leadership professionalized the Party, and for the first time in over a decade, the Party began 2025 in a cash positive position.
With three decades of political experience, David has extensive experience fundraising. While he was the Senate Minority Leader, he raised $1.7 million for the Senate Victory Fund, and as MN GOP chairman, the Party raised $6.9 million in 2022 and $8.5 in 2024. In his spare time, David enjoys traveling throughout the U.S. to visit historical sites, avidly reading, volunteering at Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie where he and his wife are members, and spending time with his nine grandchildren, all of whom live in Minnesota.
